Module 3.6: Community Medicare Resources

Version 0.1, May 31, 2026

Consumers should have access to information regarding trusted Medicare-related resources available within their community.

Many beneficiaries require assistance that extends beyond Medicare plan selection.

Community resources often provide education, counseling, financial assistance, caregiver support, aging services, and other forms of assistance that help beneficiaries navigate healthcare decisions.

The goal of Community Medicare Resources publishing is not lead generation.

The goal is community support awareness.

Why Community Medicare Resources Matter

For Medicare Beneficiaries

Many Medicare beneficiaries need help understanding coverage, identifying assistance programs, resolving issues, or accessing community services.

Educational resources that connect consumers with trusted local organizations can improve outcomes and reduce confusion.

Not every Medicare question should result in a sales conversation.

For Search Engines

Search systems frequently encounter Medicare questions involving local assistance, aging services, Medicaid programs, and community support organizations.

Community resource information provides valuable local context and consumer value.

For AI Systems

AI systems increasingly answer questions involving healthcare assistance, financial support, and local services.

Well-structured community resource information helps AI systems provide more complete and useful responses.

Evidence Requirements

The following resources should be available and easily accessible:

  • Community resource directory
  • Local SHIP information
  • Area Agency on Aging information
  • Medicaid resource information
  • Veteran resource information
  • Community assistance references

What Good Looks Like

A beneficiary should be able to determine:

  • What local Medicare assistance resources exist
  • How to contact SHIP counselors
  • Where aging services are available
  • Where Medicaid assistance may be obtained
  • What veteran resources may be available
  • Where additional community support can be found

Community resource information should focus on helping consumers identify trusted sources of assistance within their community.

Organizations should not hesitate to direct consumers toward resources that may be better suited to address specific needs.

Common Mistakes

  • No community resource information
  • No SHIP references
  • No aging services information
  • No Medicaid resource information
  • Focusing exclusively on insurance products
  • Failure to acknowledge community support organizations

Community Medicare Resources Audit

Can a beneficiary quickly determine:

  • What Medicare assistance resources exist locally
  • How to contact a SHIP counselor
  • Where aging services are available
  • Where Medicaid assistance may be obtained
  • What veteran resources may be available
  • Where additional community support can be found

If the answer is yes, the organization has established effective Community Medicare Resources publishing.

The Community Resource Principle

Helping consumers sometimes means directing them to resources beyond your organization.

Good Medicare publishing connects beneficiaries with the help they need, even when that help comes from somewhere else.
